Though Donald Harrison's contributions to the Jazz World are well known, whether his contemporizing of New Orleans Jazz on albums such as Indian Blues (1991), or his creation of Nouveau Jazz in the mid-90s, it is some of his lesser known accomplishments that have redefined the limits of his scope and influence. His influence on the rapper Notorious BIG, exposing his young Brooklyn neighbor to the Jazz world and the phrasing of Cannonball Adderley, reveals the best of what modern Jazz and its ambassadors like Donald Harrison have to offer: a link to a heritage and culture from the past and an instrument by which to apply it to the future.
