Lauryn Hill has changed the way we hear music. With one album, The Mis-Education of Lauryn Hill, Ms. Hill brought previously deemed difficult issues of justice and equality to a massive audience. Never before had "Popular" music been crafted with such depth and consciousness---and the accoldaes that followed are a testament to the importance of her works.
Following Ms. Hill's ascendancy (from the hugely successful Hip-Hop group The Fugees on to her own solo releases), one can see the trajectory has always been one of commitment to a higher calling---using music as an instrument to help affect social change. Following years spent raising her children and family, Ms. Hill is here now to show that some things never change, even while everything else seems to.
